"Dropsy
Cause:
Bad water conditions or stress can make the fish vulnerable to internal infections. Old food or food of bad quality. In addition, internal parasites can cause dropsy or cause a secondary infection by bacteria.
Symptoms:
The fish show red patches on their fins and body. After a while they get a bloated appearance with scales that stick out. This is obvious if the fish is viewed from above. Dropsy is not really caused by one specific pathogen, it is to describe a fluid accumulation in the internal body cavity, which can have many causes. Dropsy usually signals internal infection and or multiple organ failure.
Treatment:
In an early stadium dropsy can be treated, but if the fish has been sick for a while it's usually to weakened for medicines to have effect. Medicines like Nifurpirinol can be added to the water and use this as a medicine bath. Salt added to the water helps the fish (2-5 g/l).
Medicines can be added to the food but this requires a lot of knowledge."
